The flipping point….

Written on April 30, 2008

Great interview with George Soros in the New York Review of Books. Been thinking the same kinds of things for a while now but could never have sat down and put it all together like that. Not my skill set, that’s for sure….. I highly recommend it.

Not that he is says anything new but it is about the best synopsis of the world today I have read in a long, long, time. Kinda reminds me of reading Robert Kaplan’s “The coming Anarchy” in 1994. That also was a fine piece of intellectual ass….. and all along, ya’ll thought I was an idiot……

I was trying to come up with something clever, but can not. A good read indeed. I can not help but think that a change in our civilization is unraveling, the situation is disconcerting. A decline of the American Empire perhaps. The capitalist system is probably a good one provided that ethics remains at the helm, I think that is what Soros is trying to tell us.

Yes, but you have to read both articles to get my point, my flipping point. In a new entry I will try to comment on both and try to marry my experience as a journalist and a traveler, which afterall, I have done for over twenty five years, combined.

Well, it is now 1:00 am and I just finished reading Kaplan’s article and re-reading Soros’s interview. Shit, I don’t think I should get out of bed in the morning, where are the keys to the Limo? I was not ready for this destabilizing truth.

Therein lies the problem, hard to refute…. we had betta do something quick cause this shit is happening right now….. you’d betta sharpen those scalpels, cause we are going to need them.

Or, you can continue to read the wonderful world of Wired, where technology and capital come together to create a better cell phone, and thus, a better world. Americans are such optimists because they are so ignorant of the truths on the ground, so poorly traveled and educated about the rest of the world.

Optimism is a great thing, but only when it is put to good use, not blind, dogmatic and invasive. They’ve been smoking a little too much of that dream lately, but no worries, they be waking up soon, screaming “what, what, what’s goin’ on…., what time is it…”.

At least there are Americans Like Soros and Kaplan and thousands of others, whose intellect and energy might tip the point back towards stability. What I am afraid of is that it might be too late, I felt it was already too late back in 87, but more on that later…..

What appears disconcerting is the fact that Kaplan does not appear to offer nor present a solution and, thinking about it, I do not see one except maybe for isolationism. Please offer your insight soon, it is spring, the sun is out, and I would like to enjoy a nice Vino Verde on the Terrace without thinking it will be one of my last.

Kaplan is a journalist….but “I” in all my mighty wisdom will offer insights and solutions. How big is your line of credit?

Shit man, you are an Artist…come up with something, that is all we have left. As for the line of credit, no problem there, think Pablo Escobar.
